Eterno Agosto

The last post I wrote was when June was over. Some time has passed now. The weather has improved, the African heat came back, the flowers outside my window first dried up so I had to shorten their heads, blossomed again - for a week, and today I cut them again. In the meantime I was in Paris, Corfu, Szczecin, Wigry National Park and Wilga (60 km from Warsaw).

By this, to a large extent joyful, traveling, I completely lost the sense of time and today I realised that it's only 2 weeks of vacation ahead. When I told it to my friend, he said that vacation will be also next year, so there's nothing to worry about. But it does not speak to me because inside obviously I'm still 10 years old and I experience it as if I was about to appear at the inauguration of the school year on the September, the 1st.

Meanwhile, it is necessary to use these last days of August, already shorter and cooler in morning and evening. But still warm. Maybe a summer movie theater, maybe a bivouac or mountain. Or maybe the sea?

Wino sierpniowe

Pani M. jest uczulona na alkohol. Ale, rzecz ciekawa, nie na każdy. Pijemy białe wino, a ona kicha, oczy jej łzawią, prosi o chusteczki. Pomaga jej, gdy wypije rozpuszczalne wapno.

Mrs. M. is allergic to alcohol. But, the interesting thing, not to every kind of it. While drinking white wine, she sneezes, with eyes watering, asks for some wipes. It helps her when she drinks soluble calcium. Vodka doesn't cause allergy, I don't know why. Fortunately, because you have to 'catch up' the rest of the company.

In Krynica Morska was going to be full of wild boars. I was going there, ready to shoot a number of sows and piglets, even to escape to the nearest tree, and...there was nothing. For nearly a week I have not seen any of them. Instead, swarms of mosquitoes everywhere.

And as if nothing had happened, we have the second half of August. This is the last gasp of holidays, I regret so much the ending summer. The air is slightly autumn, the rowan is so red on trees. And I think I'm lucky because I had two rounds of vacation this time. Although in my head I plan further voyages, I am already more calm because my restless soul flew a little this summer.

It's so good I'm not allergic to wine.

Mirabelka

I nieobecność.

After a beautiful, hot June, the July isn't too good this year. A few days ago, when I was walking to work in the morning, I had the impression that this was September. But quickly I drove those thoughts, because it was still more than a month of vacation. Even when it's 19 degrees, I wear shorts, I beg aura. And I'm still waiting for the real summer.

I complain  a little of the weather, and yet I spent over a week on the sunny island of Crete. And so - I'm still in love with Greece. This is probably, as of now, my longest romance.

I'm spending the weekend at home. Today I looked over the fence into the backyard of my now deceased Aunt Parsley and Uncle Olek. There is no dog that - even though it knew usfor years - growled and barked every time it saw us. Not without reason its name Jackal fit it perfectly.

Empty. Even the grass is not too green and everything is closed up tight. Although every now and then someone looks after the home, you can strongly feel the pervasive absence.

Only large mirabelle plum tree that - since I can remember - born thousands of tiny yellow plums, still bears fruit. Earth is showered with them entirely. Everyone has always refused to eat these crops and they were lost, stretched with the shoes of everyone who walked through the garden.

I baked the cake today - with mirabelle. Sour. Too sour for Mom.
What will stay after us? Perhaps trees. And absence.
