Long weekend

W Polsce mamy za chwilę tzw. "długi weekend". Jeżeli ktoś wziął sobie 3 dni urlopu, to od dzisiaj od 18:00 aż do niedzieli 6 maja ma wolne. Ponieważ pogoda robi się coraz lepsza, można brać pod uwagę nawet plażowanie. Szczęściarze wyjeżdżają w te dni gdzieś dalej niż na Mazury lub w Tatry - choć absolutnie nie chcę odbierać uroku naszym polskim cudom natury.

In Poland we're going to have a "long weekend" in a moment. If someone took a three days off, then the time from today after 18:00 until Sunday May 6th will be free to them. As the weather gets better, you can take into account even sunbathing. Lucky ones may have the occassion to go somewhere further than a Masuria or Tatras - but I absolutely do not want to take away the charm from our Polish wonders of nature.

Mój wymarzony urlop to wypad nad morze. Kocham plażę, sól na skórze, piasek we włosach. Jestem ciepłolubna - dla mnie nigdy nie jest za gorąco. Poniżej przedstawiam listę niezbędnych rzeczy, które sama biorę na wyjazd nad morze (o tej porze roku chyba jednak nie polskie). Ograniczyłam się do prawdziwego minimum.

My dream vacation is a trip to the seaside. I love the beach, the salt on your skin, sand in your hair. I'm thermophilic - for me it's never too hot. Below there is the list of essential things that I would take for a trip to the seaside (at this time of year, probably not the Polish one). I've narrowed it down to a real minimum.

Dlaczego robię listy. Why do I make lists.

Lista rzeczy do zrobienia. Lista filmów do obejrzenia. Lista książek do przeczytania. Lista postanowień noworocznych. Odkąd pamiętam - zawsze robiłam listy. Są jak gdyby "obietnicą" tego, co zdarzy się w przyszłości. Kocham spisywać ładnym, najlepiej kolorowym, długopisem w fajnym notesie, co chcę zrobić, jakie miejsca odwiedzić, kosmetyki wypróbować. Jestem staroświecka i oprócz smartfona, zawsze kupuję albo dostaję standardowy kalendarz i mam kilka papierowych notesów.

The things to do list. The movies to watch list. The books to read list. New Year's resolutions list. Ever since I can remember - I have always prepared lists. They are sort of "the promise" of what will happen in the future. I love to write down in a notebook with a nice, colored pen - what I would like to do, what places to visit, what cosmetics to try. I'm old-fashioned and, in addition to a smartphone, I always buy or get a standard calendar and I have a few paper notebooks.

Skąd bierze się nawyk robienia list? Czujemy się przez to lepiej, pewniej? U mnie jest to chyba silna część składowa mego charakteru - jestem uporządkowana, zawsze lubiłam pisać, a taka lista - np rzeczy, które w danym tygodniu muszę załatwić - działa jak dodatkowa motywacja do działania. Kiedy patrzę na spis rzeczy, których ciągle nie zrobiłam, w końcu się za nie zabieram. To dobry pomysł dla tych, którzy zupełnie nie umieją radzić sobie z organizacją czasu. Albo wiecznie o czymś zapominają.

Where does the habit of making lists come from? Do we feel any better or more confident making lists? For me, this is probably a strong component of my character - I like everything in order, I have always liked to write and such a list - for example with things that I have to do during the week - it's like an additional motivation to act. When I look at the list of things that I still haven't done, in the end I finally finish them. It's a good idea for those who never know how to deal with the organization of time. Or always forget something.

Dużo surfuję po Internecie, wynajduję sklepy, nowinki kosmetyczne, w gazetach i magazynach lifestyle'owych szukam polecanych tytułów filmów, książek, płyt. Czasem znajduję gotowe listy - np ta - lista 1001 popularnych książek do przeczytania przed śmiercią ;). Czy lista dobrych filmów, które trzeba obejrzeć. Taką listę mieli tez bohaterowie filmu "The Bucket list" - "Choć goni nas czas", który bardzo polecam.

I surf a lot on the Internet, looking for e-shops, beauty news, in newspapers and magazines I find recommended titles of movies, books, music. Sometimes I find ready-made list - such as this - a list of 1,001 popular books to read before you die;). Or the list of good movies that you need to watch. The heroes of "The Bucket list" movie, which I highly recommend, also had a list.

Nawet po zakupy idę z listą. Dowiedziono, że ludzie, którzy idą na zakupy, nie wiedząc, czego tak naprawdę potrzebują, kupują dużo niepotrzebnych rzeczy i wydają tym samym więcej pieniędzy.

Even when I go shopping I do it with a list. It's been proven that people who go shopping, not knowing what they really need, buy a lot of unnecessary things and spend therefore more money.

Kiedyś przeczytałam, że warto mieć listę, która mówi o nas samych, naszych zaletach. Lista rzeczy, które w sobie lubimy, które są w nas piękne. Na zły dzień, gdy ktoś zrobi nam przykrość, los z nas zadrwi, czy zaczniemy w siebie wątpić - wyciągamy ją z sekretnego miejsca i czytamy. Kiedyś zrobiłam taką dla siebie. Na ładnym papierze, napisaną starannym pismem. Pomaga.

I once read that you should have a list that says things about us, our advantages. List of the things that we like in ourselves, things that are beautiful about us. On a bad day, when someone hurt us or the fate has mocked of us, when we start to doubt in ourselves - just pull it out of the secret place and read. Once I did this for myself. On a nice paper, with carefully written letters. It helped.
