Jack Vanzet

Ja. Lat 22.

Las night I dreamt about the past. Long forgotten, not important anymore. But still - mine. I woke up irritated but I don't have any influence on what is happening to me in my dreams, I thought. On what happened some time ago - also not.

One week ago an accident happened to me and I got out of it, yet battered. Without a car, though. The funny thing is that I remember what I thought in the course, although it took a few seconds. Maybe a dozen or so. And, instead of dancing, I spent my yesterday's 31st birthday in an orthopedic collar. However, with my family.

After the accident, my favorite hat disappeared. I was looking for it, but there is no trace of it. I'm a bit sad, but slowly accepting the loss. Whereas today, I lost my gloves.

Does this mean that spring is coming?

Rehearsal

A jednak bliskim.

Recently, a just-met friend, who at the beginning indicated that he does not come from Warsaw, asked me how do I like the capital city. Simple question and I got off my pantaloons. How can you describe in one word the place where you spent over one-third of your life? There is probably no objectivity here. I treat Warsaw a bit like worn-out but favorite shoes. Comfortable, once beautiful, today I see their clear destruction, but look at them with sentiment. In so many places they carried me. I should throw them away, but somehow I can't. Although I still buy new ones.

And it is the same thing with this city. Vibrant, in some parts - damaged, battered, but well-known. With beaten paths, places. Sometimes biting my eyes with ugliness when I come back from other European capitals. And yet, close to my heart. And I answer that here is my home, here I have a job, a flat and my people.

This friend "only works here, and whenever he can, he returns to his home in Tri-City". I have heard a similar sentence more than once. And I wonder if this is possible. And if so, for how long. Living, as if on the surface, without growing roots. As if a real life was just about to start, and all this is just a rehearsal.Only when the show starts?

O początkach kariery scenicznej i panu z Krakowa.

Zamówiłam je kiedyś i pływały w śmietanie, więc nieśmiało poprosiłam o "mniej śmietany". W tym momencie zmroził mnie wzrok pani zza kasy, w fartuchu i czepku, o wyglądzie intendentki z przedszkola numer 20 w Suwałkach.

Dość zdezorientowana i jeszcze zaspana, pomyślałam o stacji "Pole Mokotowskie" i pokazałam kierunek do wyjścia w stronę pierwszej linii metra.

Ps.: Pozdrawiam moich znajomych z Krakowa.

Last Saturday I woke up at 6 am, I hardly dressed (after all, it was an inhuman hour) and I went to my homeland. Because at such an early hour I cannot swallow anything, I stopped for breakfast at the previously tested "Przystanek" bar on the route. I ordered black coffee from the coffee machine (yes, we've lived through the times when in the bars by the road you can drink a different coffee than soluble and the one with lees) and pancakes with cheese. I ordered them once and they were swimming in sour cream, so I shyly asked for "less cream". At that moment, the lady froze me from behind the cash register, in apron and bonnet, having the appearance of the officer from kindergarten number 20 in Suwałki. And I got what I wanted - less cream, but probably a triple portion of castor sugar.

Pancakes (after sliding off the castor sugar cream-wet) tasted great - just like in kindergarten. I reminded the times of it, where, next to the food that I recall with a huge liking all my life (and I liked to eat), I also remember the beginnings of my stage career. I decided to use deceit in the middle of the game, breaking out of the crowd of sleepy children, quickly inventing the words "Let's love the birds" and thus getting the opportunity to perform during the solo performance in front of the entire elementary school number 7, then one of the largest in the city. Besides, I do not associate the kindergarten with anything constructive.

***
On Monday, waiting in the morning at the station of the second metro line, I was stopped by a rather charming man asking "Which way to the field?". Pretty confused and still sleepy, I thought about the station "Pole Mokotowskie" ("Mokotowskie Field") and showed the direction to the exit towards the first metro line. Later, it came to my mind (maybe because that guy was really nice to the eye) that the questioner could have been a newcomer from Cracow and asked how to get outside (to the field- how the people from Cracow say).Let's hope he got to the right place.
Ps .: Greetings to all my friends from Cracow.

Find yourself a marry little Christmas

Szukam ich wszędzie. Próbuję znaleźć w sobie i w innych. Stojąc w kolejce w sklepie. Na straganie pod Halą Mirowską. W domu, w pracy. Nawet na zdjęciach. Na ulicy. Nic.

I am looking for it everywhere. I try to find it in myself and in others. Standing in line at the store. At the market nearby Hala Mirowska. At home, at work. Even in the pictures. On the street. Nothing. Grandma says that real cleanups, like - real ones, will help. On Saturday, a week ago I was cleaning the kitchen for 3 hours. I took everything out of the cabinets, drawers, nooks and crannies. Except of some jam of the unknown kind from 2010, nothing surprised me.

Where is Christmas? Although the lights are blinking on the streets, I go to stores looking for presents, at work we have completed the Szlachetna paczka, I still do not feel it. Maybe because there is no snow? And sometimes I wonder if it's gonna be like that forever? Is it only a privilege of children (and my grandmother)? I've been trying to put myself in this special state for several years. I watch the right movies, I listen to Christmas music. Doesn't help. And I'm not alone here.

What do we miss so much? Christmas is every year after all.

Maybe we wish it was a bit quieter, without a crowd in stores. We wish to count down the days on the calendar. To have a slightly smaller choice. And wet snow boots. We wish the house really smelled of a Christmas tree, because what a Christmas it is without a tree. We wish we really wanted to take care and pay attention. And dream about something to be among gifts. And hide it then under the pillow. And we wish we looked out for that first star.Although it shines every year.

California state of mind

I wspaniałe długie plaże Ocean Beach.

Widok palm i zieleni mnie uspokaja.

A może trzeba znaleźć sobie własne słońce. Które będzie świecić niezależnie od pogody. I mieć taką własną Kalifornię. Codziennie.

"Why you don't write anything on the blog? Write about California."

***

Today it's been nine days since I returned from the United States. Actually, one of them - what is important, because it is said to be different from the rest of America. Two weeks was enough for me to love California as much as only a few places on Earth.

And asked about what I liked so much there, I say towns, beaches, food, museums, people. But it's really hard to describe the impression that has left me yet after coming back home. Because you have to be and feel the climate, the laid back atmosphere and unconstrained, effortless beauty of those places I've visited. I do not idealize Los Angeles, there are ugly places there, where it is not worth to appear at all. But this happens everywhere. Tacos and guacamole I dream of at night. Palm trees and murals on Venice Boulevard. And wonderful long beaches of Ocean Beach. A greenery that pinches your eyes.

Strangers tell you 'hi' in the street, they smile, they ask "how are you?". And you don't answer otherwise than "I'm fine, thanks". Maybe it's this kind of kindness of courtesy because of which Americans are accused of being superficial. Probably yes, because no one is interested in whether or not your head aches. But this way of being makes relationships easier, people are smiling and open. And I miss it on the Polish street, where similar behavior would be taken at least as strange.

As infectious is the smile and ease of conversation there, so here it is contagious to look away and indifferent, although I know that this lady is from my block and that boy is working in the same building. Maybe it's the lack of sunshine that shines on most days of the year in California? I need sun and sea in life. The view of palm trees and greenery calms me.

But maybe you have to find your own sunshine. That will shine regardless of the weather. And have your own California. Everyday.

Road Trippin'

To właśnie mandarynki będę jeść aż do początków wiosny, gdy stracą prawdziwy smak.

A walizkę wyciągają trochę z przymusu. Taka przewidywalność dnia codziennego jest strefą komfortu, którą rzadko opuszczają. Bo po co szukać szczęścia gdzie indziej? Przecież wszędzie dobrze, gdzie nas nie ma.

A są tacy, których gdzieś ciągnie. Zarabiają pieniądze, by wydać je na bilety w nieznane. Szlafrok i hotelowe kapcie. Albo przynajmniej łóżko w wynajętym pokoju. Chcą wciąż czuć nowe smaki i zapachy, poznawać ludzi. Czasem się zgubić, żeby się odnaleźć.
I może by w końcu odnaleźć siebie.

In Poland, the tangerine season began, which means there's no way back from fall. It's nothing that there are apples, figs and pumpkins (which I prepare the third weekend in a row). It is just the tangerines I will be eaing until the beginning of spring when they lose any taste.

It's fall here but in the south of Europe it's still summer. Not to mention distant destinations. It's easy to forget about falling leaves, rain and umbrellas when we get off the plane.
***
Some people don't like change too much. Or not at all. They enjoy next seasons, eating dinner at the same table every day, putting money down on the account. And they pull out their suitcase a little because of compulsion. This predictability of the day is a comfort zone they rarely leave. Why seek happiness elsewhere? Well,
the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, isn't it?

And there are some who constantly have a call within to set off somewhere. They earn money to spend it on tickets into the unknown. Or spend it on a new suitcase, because the old one's wheels began to jam. They love breakfast with a different view outside the window. Hotel bathrobe and slippers. Or just a bed in a rented room. They want to feel new flavors and smells, meet people. Sometimes get lost in order to be found. And maybe to find themselves eventually.

It's fall again

Październik to taki czas, gdy znowu zaczynam myśleć o gotowaniu. Jakoś bBardziej nam trzeba takiego jedzenia "na pocieszenie". Bo zimno, bo szybko ciemno.

I rano, opatuleni szalikami, wracamy do dobrze nam znanej codzienności.

October. This year, extremely brisk. And although I always check the weather before leaving, every morning I am surprised that "it's that cold". And I wish I had a hat. I regret summer is over, so short in Poland this year. But travels have compensated me for lack of sunshine in the country.

It's already cold in ankles and I like rolled up trouser legs so much. But I do not want to complain about rheumatism
when I'm old. Sometimes I pretend a bit that I don't have to wear warm clothes and lay the next layer.

October is this time of the year when I start thinking about cooking again. For more we need "comfort food"
now. Because of cold, because it's dark quickly. Because you cannot drink coffee in the garden of your favorite cafe.

And it would be ok to complain that it's fall, that winter is coming. And this time in the post-vacation capital city, which returned to its normal mode, after a 3-month desolation, is somehow soothing and calming. And in the morning, wrapped in scarves, we go back to our well-known everyday life.

Beautiful Strangers

Wysiadamy razem, chociaż jedzie do córki.

***

I znowu jestem w Warszawie.

The bus - as I thought - from Las Palmas to Maspalomas. I'm going to the South because in the North there're clouds like in Warsaw that I just left. I sit next to some old man with headphones in his ears. After a minute, the old man pulls his headphones out and starts talking to me in Spanish. He is Cuban but has lived in Gran Canaria for 20 years. He asks where I am going. So I explain I want to go to the South "porque quiero estar bronceada". He starts to laugh - I got into the wrong bus. We get off together, although he was on the way to his daughter. We go to the bus stop, wait for the bus, then I get on - he's waving me goodbye and going back to his things.

 T
hen I'm on the right bus, I sit next to a young girl and ask if the beach in Maspalomas is the last stop. She confirms and says that she's also going there. She's Slovenian, Kristina, 19-year-old and works in a hostel next to the surf house I stayed in. We spend all day together. When, at the end of the day, I say how old I am, she doesn't believe - I have to show her my ID. She thought I was 23 at the most. And I think that inside - I am - if not less. The first days of surfing are heavy. I have an autumn runny nose I brought from Poland, waves are huge, I have marine plants in my hair all the time. For half a year I will not use salt. The beginnings. And knowing that I may not be a surfer at all. Finally, those liters of salty water that I drink turn out to be salvific for my airways. And I manage to stand and float on board.***And again I'm in Warsaw. It's autumn all over. I already miss sun, salty water and those stranger, wonderful people. I miss other surf & yoga camp participants. I miss Spanish music and tapas. I have runny nose again.

Yesterday I heard that love is like coming back home after a long journey. For me love is packaging a suitcase.

Late August

I rzeczywiście, kolejne zaćmienie całkowite będzie miało miejsce w 2135 roku.

Trzy ostatnie dni były deszczowe i bure. Dzisiaj wyszło słońce, a w pogodzie widać jeszcze ciepłe momenty, czasem wrzesień bywa upalny.

On Monday, August 21 of this year, we had the chance to watch (in Poland on tv) a total eclipse of the Sun. You could see it live in the United States, using special glasses, though some have opted out. "The next may be in 100 years", as the Polish super rock band was singing. And indeed, another complete eclipse will take place in 2135. We will rather not see that on this planet. Our grandchildren and great-grandchildren - probably yes.

I am sick. Since Monday I've been sitting at home, taking medication, drinking tea and getting read everything. I thought that after 2 days I'd be fine, but unfortunately my body decided to come back to health on its own terms.
Well, it's a good idea to read the whole Internet through. Cause I'm running out of books and magazines already.

And when I sit at home, I cannot get rid of the feeling that the air is already autumnal. The last three days were rainy and gloomy. Today sun came out and in the weather there are still warm moments, sometimes even September is still hot.

Only in this strange feeling of nostalgia that makes us feel like watching movies wrapped in blankets and eating something warm again, is it about the weather?
You can fool aura and head South. But you can't fool yourself.

Eterno Agosto

The last post I wrote was when June was over. Some time has passed now. The weather has improved, the African heat came back, the flowers outside my window first dried up so I had to shorten their heads, blossomed again - for a week, and today I cut them again. In the meantime I was in Paris, Corfu, Szczecin, Wigry National Park and Wilga (60 km from Warsaw).

By this, to a large extent joyful, traveling, I completely lost the sense of time and today I realised that it's only 2 weeks of vacation ahead. When I told it to my friend, he said that vacation will be also next year, so there's nothing to worry about. But it does not speak to me because inside obviously I'm still 10 years old and I experience it as if I was about to appear at the inauguration of the school year on the September, the 1st.

Meanwhile, it is necessary to use these last days of August, already shorter and cooler in morning and evening. But still warm. Maybe a summer movie theater, maybe a bivouac or mountain. Or maybe the sea?

piątek, 30 czerwca 2017

So June is over? Julying.

Pogoda nas nie rozpieszcza. Chociaż początek czerwca wyglądał obiecująco, to mniej więcej od jego połowy aż do teraz - leje. Z przerwami, ale jednak. Dzisiaj, opuściwszy miejsce pracy, szłam spokojnie do domu, nawiedzając po drodze pobliską księgarnię, gdy nagle niebo ściemniało i nad stolicą przeszedł prawdziwy tropikalny tajfun.

A właściwie chmurą.

The weather does not spoil us. Although the beginning of June looked promising, from about half of month up to now - it's raining cats and dogs. With breaks, but nevertheless. Today, having left the workplace, I was walking quietly home, haunting the nearby bookstore when the sky suddenly darkened and the real tropical typhoon passed over the capital city. It was interesting to watch it over the guide to Greece (and from behind the glass), but the question, which in all this confusion was buzzing in the head: "You call 'this' summer?", took away the charm of this unique phenomenon of nature in Poland.

And we need to pay honour to American scientists who have exatly accurate weather forecast for this summer in Poland. So those who chose to spend their summer holidays abroad and not under the Polish little cloud, were the ones who won. In fact, under a huge cloud. Although I keep my fingers crossed for the improvement of the aura, because - apart from travelling abroad plans - I have also local ones. Including a tent.

And today, when I saw we had the last day of June, I thought it was impossible. That is already 1/3 of summer behind us, and I still haven't tanned. Although with hats in bulk, because after years of fascination with shoes, purses and jewelry, it came to those - previously regarded as completely unnecessary - headgear. What proves that a human being changes constantly and constantly. It's hard for me to keep up with myself even. And I'm going to wear them - not just on vacation.

Sztuka spadania.

I znowu mamy czerwiec. Najpiękniejszy miesiąc w roku. Zajadam truskawki, różowe piwonie w wazonie cieszą oczy, a na twarz trzeba nakładać krem z filtrem. Bo słońce praży. I trudno mi usiedzieć w domu, pogoda taka piękna. Mimo, że zapowiadają deszcz i burze, to jednak mamy lato.

***

Zrobić ładne zdjęcie to sztuka. Dzielenie się nim - pewnie też. Trudniej sfotografować zmęczenie, ból. Upadek. Bycia tu i teraz. Radzenia sobie z emocjami. Podnoszenia się.

Życie to także sztuka spadania.

And we have June again. The most beautiful month of the year. I get strawberries, pink peonies in the vase enjoy the eyes and you need to apply cream with a filter. Because sun is roasting. And it's hard for me to sit at home, so beautiful is the weather. Although they announce rain and storms, it's summer after all.

***

And all this is also visible in social media. Flowers, bikini, joy, alcohol in beautiful glasses. Perfect girls, perfect boys, perfect life. Someone might think that this is really true. For who shows other failures, disasters, broken heart? And they are. It's life, isn't it? Only they are not in the pictures.

And I miss a bit life before the times of internet sometimes. Although I use facebook, instagram because I can maintain some contacts, get inspiration or remind some things watching my old photos, yet I look at these media from distance. Which is lacked by children, brought up in times when internet has been there since "forever". For them, it's normal that everything can be checked on Google, that being in a new place, we have to "tag" ourselves there. Etc etc ...And they look at this "smoothed out" world, passed by a good filter in the application.

And life is not a continuous party, not always a smooth face and a delicious breakfast in bed. Taking a nice photo is an art. Sharing it - probably too. Difficult to photograph, however, is fatigue, pain. Fall. And just as important as the ability to capture beauty or joy is the ability to truly experience them. Being here and now. Coping with emotions. Raising again.
Life is also the art of falling.
