To był maj.

Burza w Warszawie popsuła nieco wieczorne sobotnie plany.

Wszyscy idą chodnikiem, a ja biegnę przez żółte pole mleczy, mam białą sukienkę i ciocia krzyczy, żebym szybko stamtąd wróciła, bo będzie brudna.

The storm in Warsaw has broken some of Saturday evening's plans. After the cold weather during the long weekend, the temperature was already rising with every hour yesterday, to welcome a pretty summer aura today. When I was eating green asparagus and sugar peas, I had a feeling it was already summer.

Walking around Warsaw today, I thought that, even though I just returned from there, I would most like to have May in Suwałki. When it is warm, grass is lush green, trees are blooming, dandelions are yellow, pollen makes hands and clothing dirty. Maybe it was not the hometown I missed, but the memory of days in my there in May, many years ago?

Sometimes we just do not yearn for the place or the person, but the feeling or experience. Just a song, a picture or a simple conversation. Or none of them.We walk into the corridor of memory and wandering, we reach places that seemed long forgotten. Especially when your eyes are closed.

It's May, I'm 3 years old. We are returning from the communion of my cousin. I am happy because I was so bored that half the mass I was nudging my nose (everything will be registered by camera later...). Everybody's walkingdown the pavement, but I am running through the yellow field of dandelions, I have a white dress and my aunt tells me to go back from there because it will be dirty. But I do not listen at all, I like it a lot and some of the dandelions are higher than me. And all I am thinking about is ice cream after dinner.

Memories vs. Reality

I chętnie do nich wracamy.

Have you ever come back to what you knew in the past ... and felt unpleasantly disappointed? In my case - more than once. The best example - perfume. As a girl I got a miniature of eau de toilette "Lumière" by Rochas. Fell in love with them because they really smelled like light (that's what this French word means). After years I found this fragrance on the Internet and ordered it without hesitation. It has long been unavailable in Poland and the price turned out to be pretty good. Unfortunately, the thing I liked at the age of 12, turned out to be completely 'out of date' after more than 10 years ... I gave the perume away.

And so it was a couple of times. With a film, a book, a forgotten place that - visited after years - was not so big and so beautiful. Not like it once was. Some, because of nostalgia and a common past, decided to even try to be together "again and from the beginning." And finished it faster than at the first time.

As we age, we change. Also change our tastes. While this is not an absolute rule because some things are good for a lifetime. And we'll be happy to come back to them. Even now I am using a fragrance I felt for the first time as a child and since then I've felt a great sentiment to it. Sometimes this sentimental thinking about certain places, things and even people makes our minds operate as if they were surrounded with a gentle fog. It seems to us that something stored in our head one way would be so even today. Or we have a false delusion that the old relationship, proven as a good harbour, even though the one that did not work out, may prove to be good today, because nothing may no longer surprise us ...

Some things are best as memories. Beautiful, as happened once in the past. And best if we leave them there cause what once enjoyed, may now be too sweet.
Or may be not tasty at all.
